Access to pure Drinking Water and Hygienic Promotion in Sri Lanka

Water is essential to life. It means food can grow, people are healthy and the life can flourish. A person can only survive on average three days without water, and if the water the consuming polluted and contaminated, fatal diseases can spread quickly and the effects are devastating. Islamic Relief Sri Lanka Implemented the project Access to pure drinking water and hygienic promotion in Sri Lanka, Project owned by Islamic Relief Canada in Anuradhapura and Batticaloa Districts

Anuradhapura and Batticaloa are two vulnerability districts in the Sri lanka, Horowpotana Divisional secretariat in Anuradhapura district people from Koralaipattu central and Manmunai North in Batticaloa district living with lack of access to pure drinking water they use water from other sources like pond and unsafe water well which are not safe for human health, according to the 2018 Report 882 kidney disease patients identified in horowpothana division, Islamic Relief conducted need assessment on the ground level and submitted the proposal,
Major Activities of this project are Installed three Reverse Osmosis water purifications centers in Yanoya, Akkaraseeya and Mawathaweva villages in Horowpotana division , provide 235 new pipe borne water connections in Batticaloa Districts and conduct the awareness sessions to 606 Beneficiaries the cost of total project’s intervention is 160,752 CAD

Islamic relief Sri Lanka implemented this project with the coordination of Government closely, We consulted with Divisional secretariat and Medical Health department, water resource board conducted hydro-geological and Geographical investigation , National Water Supply and Drainage to the sustainable and communize we strengthened the community through established Water Management committee which representing men, women and PWD from the village, Islamic Relief established complaint mechanism in each villages, and provided awareness, PSEA ( Safeguarding and Child protection) to the Beneficiaries In addition we have arranged special access to person with disabilities
