Islamic Relief Worldwide is an International Humanitarian and Development agency dedicated to alleviate the poverty and suffering of the world poorest people. Islamic Relief initiated its Sri Lanka operation since year 2005  in alleviating poverty of the needy and vulnerable people

The office reinforces implementing structure to enable vulnerable people and their communities to develop themselves sustainably, and ensures that the organisation is prepared to respond promptly and effectively to humanitarian crises and development needs.



To be the main focal point with regard to the One to One Orphans Sponsorship Programmes (OSP): ensuring annual progress reports are prepared on time, ensuring timely submission of Narrative Report’s. Ensuring all issues regarding the OSP have been dealt with conforming to the agreed IR-SL standards and to ensure the programme meets the policy standards through follow up of learning review action plan



Program Officer accountable to fulfil his/ her roles and responsibilities in line with IRW’s and IRSL code of conduct, values and principles, and to report to his/her line-manager regularly on the basis of annually defined key performance indicators (KPIs).

Program Implementation:

  • Arrange activities to support families or hold focus group discussions, create awareness (i.e. hygiene, education, complaints, etc.)
  • Support families to open accounts to receive payments (will they need to assist in also maintaining their list of orphans/verification)
  • Ensure documentation in place for each sponsored family, i.e. death/birth certificate, id etc. Arrange activities to support families or hold focus group discussions, create awareness (i.e. hygiene, education, complaints, etc.)
  • Reassess families every 3 years to ensure they still meet the sponsorship criteria Arrange activities to support families or hold focus group discussions, create awareness (i.e. hygiene, education, complaints, etc.)
  • Ensure any protection or safeguarding concerns reported to senior management/Safeguarding focal person in line with IRSL process
  • Identify families at risk and ensure they are prioritised for sponsorship and closer follow up carried out Selection of beneficiary as per scoring criteria
  • Networking and coordination with relevant actors/ govt. officials
  • Need assessment and Base line survey
  • Selection of beneficiary as per scoring criteria
  • Field visits when necessary.
  • Work to achieve the outcome of the OSP program
  • Work on Annual progress report
  • Work in Al Yateem system for the designated beneficiaries
  • Arrange activities to support families or hold focus group discussions, create awareness (i.e. hygiene, education, complaints, etc.)
  • New orphan intake and uploaded, Need assessment and scoring.
  • Annual progress report field visit (form filling, photos, logbook upload in system, cross check, online check, and submitted for approval)
  • Counseling arrangement and career guidance.
  • Follow safeguarding policies.
  • Attend stake holder meeting.
  • Documentation required for the project.
  • Orientation program, focal group discussion and exit strategy program.
  • Guidance to beneficiary related in Amana withdrawal.
  • Guardian change, residential change bank account change.
  • Post 18 related works.
  • Follow IRSL complaint mechanism.
  • Payment verification gift payment works.
  • Reporting and case study.
  • Any other duties mutually agreed.

Operation Management and Budget Control:

  • Ensure organization overall performance standards are improved as a continuous process.
  • Provide expenses control including compliance with IRSL donor requirements.
  • Ensure transparency and accountability tools, processes, and mechanisms to affected communities are in place.
  • Ensure donor and agency compliance is met at all levels of project/program management cycle.

 Policy Compliance:

  • Ensure the project achieves its overall goal in conformity to all IRW and IRSL policies and guidelines.
  • Islamic Relief Sri Lanka is committed towards Prevention of sexual abuse and exploitation (PSEA) and have systems in place. Post holder will uphold the relevant policies and values of IRW.

It is essential that the post holder must follow and uphold the values (Sincerity excellence, Compassion, Social justice, Custodianship) of Islamic Relief and expected to adhere to them.

Islamic Relief has well established systematic standards (IHSAN, CHS, PSEA, SAFEGURADING, CHILD PROTECTION. Etc) to be followed.

Qualification & Experience

  • Applicant diploma holders from reputed institute.
  • Advanced level educational qualifications with relevant experience in child welfare project.
  • Previous experience in child welfare projects would be an added advantage.


  • Good organisational skills and knowledge of programme design and implementation/ management.
  • Ability to represent, liaise and negotiate at different levels with external stakeholders.
  • An ability to work under pressure with limited supervision and in complex environment.
  • Knowledge and or familiarity with the country/region.

  • Team work and flexible towards complex challenges
  • Aptitude for quickly grasping new technical concepts
  • Ability and motivation to travel within the country
  • Committed to PSEA , local laws and other International law.
