REPORTING TO: Project Officer
PERIOD: As per contract

Islamic Relief Worldwide is an International Humanitarian and Development agency dedicated to alleviate the poverty and suffering of the world poorest people. Islamic Relief initiated its Sri Lanka operation since year 2005  in alleviating poverty of the needy and vulnerable people

The office reinforces implementing structure to enable vulnerable people and their communities to develop themselves sustainably, and ensures that the organisation is prepared to respond promptly and effectively to humanitarian crises and development needs.



Project Assistant will be mainly assisting the project team maintain reporting, documentation, and facilitating coordination among the team members. He/she will be travelling to the field and will be providing support based on needs.




The post holder is accountable to fulfil his/ her roles and responsibilities in line with IRW’s and IRSL code of conduct, values and principles, and to report to his/her line-manager where needed.

Program Implementation:

  1. Assessment to identify the most vulnerable households to be supported during the intervention.
  2. Participate in the beneficiary selection and documentation.
  3. To work closely with the livelihood Coordinator and Program Officer in implementing for the project activities and share regular plan.
  4. To work closely in the field with relevant stakeholders to increased awareness of communities on Child protection and GBV.
  5. Facilitate to establish market linkage between beneficiaries and local market networks.
  6. To facilitate to mobilize the participants to establish self-help group (SHG)
  7. To participate in the beneficiaries verification process for livelihood activities.
  8. Attend project stakeholders meetings at village level and work closely with the relevant line managers.
  9. To arrange school based events/competitions on health and hygiene awareness.
  10. Perform any other task assigned or required.

 Operation Management

  1. Ensure transparency and accountability tools, processes, and mechanisms to affected communities are in place.
  2. Ensure donor and agency compliance is met at all levels of project cycle.

 Policy Compliance:

  1. Ensure the project achieves its overall goal in conformity to all IRW and IRSL policies and guidelines.
  2. Islamic Relief Sri Lanka is committed towards Prevention of sexual abuse and exploitation (PSEA) and have systems in place. Post holder will uphold the relevant policies and values of IRW.


ESSENTIAL: It is essential that the post holder show a good understanding and sympathy towards the Islamic values and principles as well as commitment to Islamic Relief’s  vision and mission.

It is essential that the post holder must follow and uphold the values (Sincerity excellence, Compassion, Social justice, Custodianship) of Islamic Relief and expected to adhere to  them.

Islamic Relief has well established systematic standards (IHSAN, CHS, PSEA, SAFEGURADING, CHILD PROTECTION. Etc) to be followed.

The post holder is responsible for ensuring that they understand and work within the safeguarding policies of the organisation.


  • Advance Level with minimum 3 years’ experience in relevant sector or
  • Diploma Holders with relevant experience of 2 years in Livelihood Sector.


  • Experience of efficient Livelihood project implementation including planning, execution and tracking with the guidance of Livelihood Coordinator.
  • Demonstrated capacity to engage effectively at operational level with government, UN, NGO’s and other stakeholders
  • understanding of the programme frameworks, business strategies relevant to Sri Lanka.
  • Risk assessment and management.
  • Capacity building and organisational development of programme staff and partner organisations.



  • Good organisational skills and knowledge of programme design and implementation/ management.
  • Ability to represent, liaise and negotiate at different levels with external stakeholders.
  • An ability to work under pressure with limited supervision and in complex environment.
  • Knowledge and or familiarity with the region.

  • Aptitude for quickly grasping new technical concepts
  • Ability and motivation to travel within the country
  • Committed to PSEA , local laws and other International law.
  • possess a valid driving license.
